Saint Pedro Calungsod Martyrs are those who stand witness for their beliefs and who give testimony to their faith. Since the early years of the Church, there have been thousands of martyrs; people who never feared, or even if they did, stood their ground for the sake of the principles they espoused and the faith that they lived by and lived for. Martyrs therefore are the models of the faith, especially those who believed and followed Jesus, the Christ and in effect, were persecuted, imprisoned, tortured and killed. Martyrs did not renounce their faith and remained true to their beliefs even if the consequence meant death. This is what St. Pedro Calungsod demonstrated in his short yet valiant life. Nuestra Señora de la Regla de Cebu Aside to the famed Santo Niño de Cebu, there is another devotion that flourished in the island that pilgrims visit through the centuries succor in times of great need - the felicitous Nuestra Señora De la Regla. The miraculous image is venerated widely by the Cebuanos who believe that the prosperity they enjoy is a blessing achieved through the strength of her maternal intercession. As the title suggests, we do have saints who did bilocate in our country. Over the past centuries we have well documented records of saints (even saw them in our lifetime) that either visited our country from Sts. John Paul II, Teresa of Calcutta, Maxilimilian Kolbe, Paul VI, Andrew Kim Taegon, Blessed Alvaro Portillo of Opus Dei or administered the Filipino faithful from Sts. Nuestra Señora de Candelaria de Jaro In the large island of Western Visayas, where the province of Iloilo is located, one of the most visited Shrines in the province is the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral in Jaro, Iloilo where it was in that shrine where the heart of Ilonggo devotion is enshrined, the Patroness of Western Visayas, Nuestra Señora de Candelaria de Jaro.
