History and Miracles

The history of the devotion dates back to the establishment of the parish in 1578, along with four other parishes of then Diocese of Nueva Caceres. Then known as Nuestra Señora de la Limpia Concepcion, the devotion thrived in Nabua and it reached its turning point in 1711 when a devastating earthquake hits Nabua and the townsfolk asked the Lord for His help and made a promise or covenant to the Blessed Virgin Mary with three acts: 1) perpetual narration of the story of the miracle, 2.) the annual celebration of its feast 3.) alms giving and a "tinagba" or an offering as an act of thanksgiving.

Our Lord and Our Lady heeded the plea and accepted the covenant of the people that the earthquake ended afterwards.

The devotion

Since that time in 1711, the people of Nabua kept their promise to Our Lord and Our Lady and they celebrated its 300th anniversary in 2011. The Feast of the Nuestra Señora de Katipanan is celebrated every July 28 or the Sunday nearest to it.  Nabua also commemorate her twon fiesta every May 4 and the people of Nabua celebrate these feast with much solemnity just as they promised. Neighboring parishes and other devotees would aslo participate in the festivities in honor of the Virgin, keeping their personal vows to celebrate her feast as well in thanksgiving to all the graces they received.

In this story of the devotion to Nuestra Señora de Katipanan of Nabua, we see here how important our promises to Our Lord and Our Lady and how we should always keep them for our sake. May we w learn something from the people of Nabua to always keep our promises that we made to Our Lord and Our Lsdy and to be faithful until the end/
